Rookies at Primal Quest? It’s true! Although we’ve been adventure racing with the same team for around three years now, this is our first season of expedition-length adventure racing. We have a lot to learn and not much time to do it. Fortunately, the Baja Travesia is renowned for it’s high level of challenge and it’s affordability, so most of us will be able to get at least one practice race before PQ. Johnny, Mila and I are currently excited (terrified) that Baja is only weeks away.
Those who don’t know, the Baja Travesia is a five day race across Baja California. DART finished in around two days last year, but we do not anticipate such a finish. For one thing, Mila is still recovering from knee surgery; she had her first run since Christmas this week, and has as yet to run more than three minutes continuously.
Still, we didn’t expect to run all of the race, so we should be ok with a fast hike. Our goal is to learn about expedition racing anyway, not to speed to the finish. I just hope I can make as many mistakes at Baja as possible that would have been made at Primal Quest.

WOW.
That is what first word that comes to mind when I look at the details of this race. You guys ought to be pretty stoked about now and a little nervous I would guess. I am pretty sure with Jeremy involved you guys are fully prepared. Have a great time and enjoy the reward from all your hard work. I am looking forward to watching this on tv.

Hi Dan! I think the kids are absolutely amazing in body and soul. Winning would be great but they have the true spirit of dedicatiion, teamwork and a willingness to work togeher on this awesome task. I truly believe that even if they come in last you’ll see smiles much admiration for the winners. There are no losers with people like them. They care as much about the other teams as thier own and I am a very proud stepmom to Jeremy and mom-in-law to Mila. Mila, if you see this, know that I am so very proud of your dedication after all you’ve been through with your knee. You are ALL winners in my book!
